Position OverviewApplications accepted from: ALL PERSONS INTERESTED Service Line/Section: Transportation and Drainage Operations/Ditch Maintenance Reporting Location: 1700 E Crosstimbers St, Houston, TX 77093 Workdays & Hours: Various* *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides basic maintenance and repair to structures, facilities, and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment. Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e., housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles, and cement mixing and preparation. Operates power and hand tool equipment. Performs painting, roofing, carpentry, and plumbing activities depending upon area. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required. WORKING CONDITIONS This position routinely requires stooping, bending, and/or lifting of items of 30 - 80 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.Minimum RequirementsEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT Six months of working experience are required. LICENSE Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.PreferencesPreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.General InformationSELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer skills assessment test.
