Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Backend Software Engineer eager to grow into a technical leadership role. This role is primarily an Individual Contributor (IC) position, with an expected split of 80% hands-on coding and technical design and 20% mentorship, process improvement, and strategic planning. You’ll play a key part in designing, building, and optimizing effodio’s application analytics platform using Go, GraphQL, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with product, data, and engineering partners to deliver scalable, high-performance backend systems that operate reliably in modern cloud environments.

What You’ll Do

Design & Development: Partner with engineering leadership and product managers to design, develop, and implement new features and platform enhancements. Ensure high standards for code quality, performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Hands-on Coding: Write efficient, well-structured, well-documented Go code. Lead the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and design through coding, testing, deployment, and iteration.

Kubernetes & Cloud Integration: Develop and operate containerized services using Kubernetes. Leverage cloud services to improve scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Cloud & Network-Aware Architecture: Design backend services with an understanding of cloud networking fundamentals, including service-to-service communication, traffic routing, security boundaries, and scalability within a cloud environment.

Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across services and systems. Apply best practices for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.

Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor and coach junior engineers, setting an example of technical excellence and best practices. Lead complex technical initiatives that may span multiple teams, and help plan project roadmaps and resource needs to gain managerial exposure.

Problem Solving: Troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver thoughtful, scalable solutions to maintain platform stability and efficiency.

Adaptability & Execution: Be prepared to take on additional projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by engineering leadership or as necessitated by evolving business priorities.

What You Bring

Experience: 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development. Proven experience designing and building large-scale, production-grade systems.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Go, or a proven ability to learn new languages quickly. Practical and/or conceptual understanding of Kubernetes. Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform.

Architecture & Design: Strong knowledge of system architecture and design patterns, including microservices and distributed systems deployed in cloud environments, with an understanding of how networking, scalability, and reliability influence system design.

Cloud & Networking Fundamentals: Familiarity with cloud networking concepts such as VPCs, service connectivity, access control, and secure communication between services.

Performance & Reliability: Demonstrated ability to optimize systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.

Team Player: Strong collaboration skills with experience working in distributed, cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for mentoring and coaching engineers, along with a clear desire to move into a formal engineering role. Problem Solving: Analytical mindset with a passion for tackling complex technical challenges.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Leadership: 2+ years of experience as a technical lead.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field. Familiarity with additional technologies relevant to analytics or data processing. Cloud or Kubernetes-related certifications. Experience coaching and supporting other engineers' career growth.

Compensation

Individual compensation depends on skills, qualifications, and experience. Compensation includes salary, equity, and a discretionary bonus.
