Senior Cloud Engineer, Sterling VA: build, scale, and productize the hosting platform our customers depend on.
General Accountability: The Senior Cloud Engineer implements and manages complex cloud infrastructure solutions while providing technical guidance to other team members. This role focuses on the deployment, optimization, and management of virtualization, storage, VDI, data protection, security solutions, and compliance frameworks across multi-tenant, and dedicated platforms. The role also works directly with customers to implement services on the hosting platform, supports the technical productization of XaaS offerings (primarily IaaS, PaaS, and similarly positioned service offerings), and leads technology evaluations to inform platform strategy.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Virtualization & Infrastructure Management
Implement and manage service provider-grade virtualization and cloud infrastructure
Configure and maintain VDI environments for client workloads
Design and deploy storage solutions including both traditional SAN/NAS & Distributed storage based offerings
Implement and test disaster recovery solutions
Security & Compliance
Implement and maintain security controls and best practices across cloud and virtualization platforms
Support adherence to compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements across hosted environments
Customer Implementation & Platform Productization
Work directly with customers to implement and configure services on the hosting platform as well as dedicated infrastructure
Support technical productization of XaaS (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) offerings, partnering with product and solutions engineering teams to bring new capabilities to market
Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions, providing recommendations on platform adoption and strategy
Operations, Support & Leadership
Provide escalation support and troubleshooting for complex issues
Lead engineering projects and initiatives
Mentor junior engineers and review technical work
Participate in on-call rotation for critical infrastructure support
Contribute to technical documentation and standard operating procedures
Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience and Core Competencies:
10+ years of experience in Core Cloud Engineering (virtualization, storage, data protection, etc…)
Strong expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V)
Strong hands-on experience with Omnissa, Workspaceone and other EUM solutions
Strong hands-on experience with with VDI solutions (Omnissa Horizon, Citrix)
Experience with both Windows & Linux systems administration
Experience with compute implementations and infrastructure security controls in enterprise environments
Familiarity with technical productization of XaaS offerings and evaluating new technologies for platform adoption
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with service meshes
Knowledge of security best practices
Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid environments
