FMI’s Strategy Practice is seeking a high-energy, experienced Senior Consultant to join its growing Energy & Power team. FMI partners with leading organizations across the built environment to deliver strategic insights, drive growth, and solve complex business challenges.

The Senior Consultant owns assigned workstreams within client engagements, co-facilitating client sessions and preparing client-ready deliverables for Engagement Manager or Partner review. This individual is accountable for the quality, timeliness, and completeness of assigned workstreams while supporting clients through change adoption and helping ensure FMI’s delivery quality standards are met.

Working with growing independence under the direction of an Engagement Manager or Partner, the Senior Consultant manages workstream milestones, coordinates Analysts and Consultants, provides informal coaching, and contributes to overall engagement strategy and client relationship management.

This is a full-time opportunity with potential locations in Raleigh, NC; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Tampa, FL; or remote. Travel may reach up to 40%, depending on client needs.

All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.

Responsibilities

Own assigned workstreams within client engagements, managing scope, milestones, deliverables, and work effort while providing ongoing feedback to the project team and Engagement Manager or Partner

Co-facilitate internal project teams on assigned workstreams, helping establish roles and responsibilities, set direction on workplan deliverables, and communicate expectations using examples from similar engagements

Participate in the scoping process with FMI Partners and clients to help define project scope prior to execution of the workplan contract

Support client communication schedules and help facilitate project kickoff meetings for assigned workstreams, coordinating with internal FMI resources as needed

Provide input to the Engagement Manager or Partner on workstream plans based on the workplan, client feedback, and observations during the scoping process

Maintain proactive communication with clients, FMI’s Client Manager, project leadership, the project team, and other internal or external stakeholders

Drive established workstream expectations, including timelines, client presentations and meetings, and delivery of high-quality, client-ready work products for Engagement Manager or Partner review

Develop a strong understanding of FMI’s full suite of services and capabilities, recognizing potential client needs and elevating opportunities to the Engagement Manager, Partner, or Client Manager

Build trusted client relationships through active listening, empathy, and professional judgment, helping connect clients with appropriate internal or external resources

Coordinate and informally mentor Analysts and Consultants on assigned workstreams, delegating appropriately and modeling strong team standards and culture

Contribute to business development and Energy & Power practice growth through speaking events, thought leadership, article research, and development of practice collateral

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field; master’s degree preferred

3–6 years of experience in consulting roles within the energy and power industry, including at least 2 years of consulting experience

Direct experience with major capital project management, such as generation, transmission and distribution, gas transmission, or data centers, preferred

Operational leadership experience within a complex organization, including experience managing individuals and/or cross-functional teams

Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and ability to synthesize large, disparate data sets into client-ready deliverables

Very strong project management skills, including the ability to develop workstream plans, forecast work effort, and manage multiple deadlines and priorities

Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and listening skills, with comfort leading conversations and providing feedback to executive-level clients

Ability to influence outcomes and behaviors with internal and external stakeholders without formal control

Demonstrated leadership skills, sound judgment, maturity, and integrity, with the ability to delegate effectively and develop others

Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and thrive in an ambiguous environment with minimal direction and supervision

Proficiency across Microsoft Office; Power BI and/or Tableau experience is a plus
