Job description
Data Scientist - AI & Value Creation, Private Equity
About the Team
Our client is a leading private equity firm is growing the internal team that partners directly with portfolio company leadership and deal teams to find, scope, and deliver applied AI initiatives across the portfolio.
The Role
This is a hands‑on Data Scientist role. You'll go into portfolio companies, work through messy organizational, financial, and operational data, and emerge with a sharp, well‑supported view of where AI and automation can unlock value, along with a model others can reuse across different companies. It's applied and high‑autonomy: not a research post, and not a job that ends at a slide deck.
What You'll Do
Work directly with portfolio company teams to pull together, clean, and analyze workforce, financial, and operational data (headcount, spend, org design, process metrics)
Build and iterate on quantitative models that quantify AI‑driven efficiency and value opportunities across functions and processes
Turn one‑off analyses into frameworks that can be reapplied across other portfolio companies
Take findings from analysis to investment committee materials and leadership conversations - you own the presentation of your own work
Collaborate with the team's engineers to take models from notebook to production
What We're Looking For
2–3 years at a top‑tier strategy consulting firm, with real hands‑on analytics experience (not just oversight of others' analysis) - or equivalent applied data science experience in a fast‑moving, client‑facing setting
Solid quantitative grounding: statistical analysis, segmentation, forecasting, applied ML, and the judgment to know which tool fits which problem
Strong Python (pandas, scikit‑learn or similar) and SQL skills - hands‑on coding, not delegated
A demonstrated ability to turn vague business questions into structured analysis with a clear conclusion
Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders, including portfolio company executives and investment committees
Sharp analytical instincts and genuine intellectual curiosity
Nice to Have
Background in private equity, corporate strategy, or workforce/organizational analytics
Experience with generative AI or LLM‑based analysis tools
Experience supporting multiple companies or clients at once
Why This Role
A hands‑on seat at the intersection of AI, strategy, and investing - small team, direct access to senior leadership, and work that feeds straight into investment decisions rather than sitting in a deck.
