Job description
Senior Embedded Software Engineer | Clean-Tech Robotics Company | Boston, MA (hybrid)
Founded over a decade ago by engineers and designers from top-tier technical and design institutions, this high-growth robotics company is backed by a leading Tough Tech venture capital fund. They're leading the transition away from traditional hydraulics toward a more efficient, sustainable alternative for heavy machinery — partnering with Tier 1 suppliers, OEMs, and the US Department of Defense to bring zero-emission robotic lifting solutions to market.
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer , you'll play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the software that powers their robotic lifting systems — collaborating cross-functionally, shaping critical software components, and ensuring the reliability and performance of systems controlling truly massive machines.
Why this role matters:
You’ll be a key member of a growing engineering team spearheading the electronic controls effort behind large-scale robotic machinery. If you’re passionate about motion control and thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment, this is a chance to make a real mark on embedded software engineering at scale.
What you’ll do:
Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for robotic lift systems, with a focus on performance, reliability, and safety
Work closely with hardware engineers to integrate software with electrical and mechanical components
Create and optimize control algorithms for precise, efficient robotic lifting operations
Develop real-time control, feedback, and sensor-integration software
Test and debug rigorously to ensure robust, reliable operation
Maintain clear documentation across design, development, and testing
Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and application specialists
What you bring:
5+ years developing software for electromechanical products in C, C++, and Python
Experience with controls, brushless DC motors, and motion control systems
Proven ability to work independently and deliver robust, well-documented software
Familiarity with embedded communication interfaces: CAN, SPI, I2C, UART
Comfort reading complex technical documentation — datasheets, schematics, process diagrams
Benefits:
competitive compensation + equity, full health/dental/life/disability coverage, 401(k), PTO, flexible/hybrid work, and a great Boston location.
