Job Description
A well-established employee benefits firm in Reston, Virginia, is adding an experienced consultant to its small group insurance team.
This person will serve as a primary resource for existing clients, helping business owners and HR leaders make sense of their health insurance options. The position combines client relationship management, renewal strategy, problem-solving, and informal leadership of less-experienced team members.
This is not a cold-calling sales position. Most of the work involves supporting current clients, managing renewals, and helping with business generated through referrals.
What You Will Do
Serve as a trusted contact for small business clients.
Manage health insurance renewals from preparation through completion.
Review pricing, coverage, carrier options, and plan changes.
Help clients compare fully insured and level-funded plans.
Explain complicated insurance information in a way clients can easily understand.
Recommend solutions based on each client’s costs, employees, and priorities.
Respond to client questions and resolve issues throughout the year.
Build relationships with business owners, executives, and HR professionals.
Assist with referrals and selected new client opportunities.
Provide direction and support to junior team members.
Work with carriers, account managers, enrollment employees, and other insurance partners.
Keep client records and renewal information accurate and organized.
What We Are Looking For
4 + years of small group employee benefits or group health insurance experience
An active Life and Health Insurance License
Strong knowledge of fully insured and level-funded plans
Experience leading client conversations and renewal meetings
The ability to evaluate options and make clear recommendations
A polished and professional presence over the phone, by video, and in person
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of accounts
A calm, decisive approach when clients need quick answers
Experience coaching or assisting less-experienced employees
Knowledge of the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. insurance markets is helpful
The Right Fit
This opportunity is best suited for someone who is experienced, practical, and comfortable taking ownership.
You should enjoy working directly with clients, solving problems, and helping employers make important decisions about their benefits. You should also be comfortable working in a smaller office where people collaborate closely and responsibilities are not divided across several specialized departments.
Compensation and Work Schedule
Base salary of $80,000 to $100,000
Comprehensive medical, retirement, and paid time off benefits
Full-time office attendance in Reston for the first 6 months
Potential flexibility after the initial 6 months
Why Consider This Position
Join a stable team with very little turnover.
Take over an established position following a long-term employee’s retirement.

Receive support from experienced service and enrollment employees.
Join a collaborative office where strong employees are trusted to do their jobs.
