The Application Engineering team provides top-tier support, maintenance, and solution design on multiple applications, including message queueing (SWIFT, IBM MQ), and reporting platforms (Business Objects, Tableau). The Senior SWIFT & IBM MQ Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed UNIX and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team, owning configuration management for supported applications and coordinating with release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.
Responsibilities
Design, plan, and implement integrated solutions across SWIFT, IBM MQ, and supporting messaging infrastructure
Tune systems for maximum performance and throughput across financial messaging environments
Respond to and support production operations in a 24/7 environment
Troubleshoot and resolve issues both proactively and as discovered, across SWIFT, IBM MQ, Tableau, and other enterprise applications
Provide application support and administration for SWIFT, IBM MQ, Tableau, and other applications
Manage application configurations, patch levels and evolution paths
Own technical problems from root cause through resolution, providing analysis and solutions that get implemented
Provide support to and coordinate with developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users
Educate and mentor team members and operations staff
Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support and change events
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience supporting SWIFT, IBM MQ, or similar enterprise messaging platforms
5+ years supporting enterprise middleware and financial messaging platforms, with direct hands-on experience in both SWIFT and IBM MQ
Direct experience installing, configuring, and administering SWIFT Alliance Access and Alliance Gateway
Direct experience administering IBM MQ, including queue managers, channels, and performance tuning
Experience troubleshooting SWIFT and IBM MQ issues in a live production environment, including connectivity, messaging flows, and system performance
Comfortable administering both Windows Server (2019 and later) and Linux (RedHat preferred) in a regulated financial messaging environment
Working knowledge of SDLC processes and tools including GIT and configuration management platforms like Puppet or Ansible
Solid understanding of DR, BCP, and how to manage systems across production and non-production environments
Able to build automation using scripting or tools such as Ansible, Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar
Strong problem solver and clear communicator, comfortable working through ambiguous, high-stakes situations with both technical and business stakeholders
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
Experience enforcing SWIFT security controls in line with CSCF requirements, across on-premises and cloud or hybrid environments
Experience with SWIFT Alliance software upgrades and mandatory annual Standards Release cyclesExperience configuring MQ channel security (TLS/SSL, CHLAUTH) and managing the certificate lifecycle, including mutual TLS with externally issued certificates
Experience configuring and tuning core IBM MQ objects - queue managers, queues, channels, and listeners, including monitoring queue depth and diagnosing message delivery issues
Proficient with IBM MQ command-line administration, including MQSC commands and command-line utilities for configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting
Experience with backup, recovery, and patch/fix pack management for MQ environments with minimal downtime
Experience with Tableau or other reporting and visualization tools
