Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer
Redmond, WA | On-site | $185K–$210K + equity | Relocation support
A VC-backed space technology company that has secured $100M in funding is developing a scalable, electronically steered radar platform for spaceborne SAR, Earth observation and advanced defence missions.
They are seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to lead the development of mission-critical flight firmware supporting radar operation, data collection, storage and processing.
Responsibilities
Architect, develop and test embedded firmware in C/C++.
Translate customer and partner requirements into practical firmware solutions.
Integrate software with FPGA/SoC processing platforms.
Support board bring-up, hardware integration and system-level debugging.
Optimise low-latency data movement between processors, FPGAs, memory, storage and network interfaces.
Develop test plans and verify software on flight-representative hardware.
Evaluate compute, memory, power and implementation trade-offs.
Collaborate with radar, FPGA, electrical and mechanical engineers.
Take ownership from requirements through integration and qualification.
Required experience
Eight or more years of embedded firmware or flight-software development.
Strong embedded C/C++ experience.
Direct software or firmware experience on spacecraft, satellites or spaceborne payloads.
RTOS, embedded Linux or bare-metal development.
BSPs, bootloaders, device drivers and hardware bring-up.
FPGA/SoC integration and hardware-level debugging.
Understanding of space-grade architecture, fault tolerance and SEU mitigation.
Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
ITAR eligibility.
Highly desirable
MicroBlaze, Zynq or another FPGA-based processor.
VxWorks, FreeRTOS or PetaLinux.
DMA, DDR and high-speed FPGA-to-processor data movement.
SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO, Ethernet or SpaceWire.
Radar, RF payload or signal-processing experience.
Ability to read electrical schematics.
Candidates whose experience is limited to ground systems, simulation, mission control or ground-support equipment will not meet the flight-firmware requirement.
Salary: $185K–$210K base plus equity
