Lead Mechanical Engineer (6 to 10+ years)
Location: New York, NY (Midtown office, hybrid to be confirmed)
Type: Permanent, full time
The role
Our client, an award winning NYC MEP consultancy, is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to head up its mechanical discipline on major commercial and residential projects. You will set technical direction, own key client relationships and build the team around you. This is a leadership hire with a clear route to Associate or Principal.
What you will do
Lead the mechanical discipline across a portfolio of projects from concept to closeout
Own senior client relationships with owners, developers and architects
Set system strategy and design standards: central plant, VRF, heat pumps, energy recovery and electrification
Sign and seal drawings as Engineer of Record
Lead QA/QC across the mechanical team
Manage fees, budgets, resourcing and schedules across multiple projects
Drive decarbonization and Local Law 97 strategies for existing buildings
Lead proposals, fee estimates and client presentations, and help win new work
Hire, mentor and develop engineers and designers
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
6 to 10+ years of HVAC design experience at an MEP consulting firm, ideally in NYC
PE license preferred (New York, or able to obtain NY reciprocity)
Proven track record leading large projects and teams
Expert knowledge of NYC Mechanical Code, ASHRAE standards and NYC Energy Conservation Code
Strong client facing presence and business development experience
Confident with Revit based workflows and load calculation software
Nice to have
LEED AP or Certified Passive House Consultant
Experience with energy modeling, audits and large retrofit or electrification projects
Existing client network across the NYC owner and developer market

Salary:
$130,000 to $160,000 base, up to $165,000 with a PE, plus bonus
