Job description

Are you a senior mechanical building services professional looking for true ownership in your career?

At Thompson & Litton , we are 100% employee-owned —meaning our people are stakeholders who directly share in our growth, stability, and collective success. We are seeking a self-motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services to join our multidisciplinary team, drive high-efficiency HVAC load strategies, mentor the next generation of engineers, and lead complex MEP projects from concept to completion across commercial, industrial, and institutional portfolios.

The T&L Advantage

100% Employee-Owned (ESOP): Build a direct, long-term stake in your future and the firm’s success.

Flexible Work Environment: We work where the work needs us—in the office, from home, in the field, and in the community—with adaptable scheduling to support work-life balance.

Broad Project Scope: Lead and shape diverse, high-impact projects ranging from K-12 and higher education facilities to industrial plants.

Professional Growth: We invest heavily in your career longevity through specialized leadership tracks, industry conferences, and advanced credentials.

Mentorship Culture: Thrive in an environment where your guidance of junior staff is valued just as much as your technical excellence.

The Role: From Concept to Completion

As a senior member of our Building Services team, you will own the full scope of design and project delivery. You will:

Design & Lead: Drive the production of comprehensive mechanical building services packages, including advanced HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection plans.

Analyze & Optimize: Oversee critical calculations for HVAC loads, energy usage, and life-cycle costs to deliver sustainable, high-performance building solutions.

Collaborate in the Field: Lead site visits for renovations and additions, gathering the "ground-truth" data needed for seamless building systems integration.

Guide Project Delivery: Author and review technical specifications, engineering reports, and building system condition assessments.

Support Construction & Quality: Direct construction-phase administration—managing RFIs, submittal reviews, and field assessments while ensuring high-quality execution.

Mentor & Elevate: Share your expertise to support the technical growth and career development of junior and mid-level engineering staff.

What You Bring

Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in building services design (specifically HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) within commercial, industrial, or institutional sectors.

Licensure & Education: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of practice required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire).

Technical Software: Proficiency in—or demonstrated leadership using—AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP (Carrier) or equivalent building performance simulation software.

Technical Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of mechanical and building codes and standards (including ICC, ASHRAE, and NFPA).

Project Leadership: A proven track record of delivering complex building services projects on time and on budget while serving as a key liaison for clients and multidisciplinary teams.
