Role Overview
Apply deep metallurgical and welding-inspection expertise to help train next-generation AI systems for advanced manufacturing and materials engineering. You will evaluate real-world technical cases, make defensible accept or reject decisions, and provide the expert reasoning needed to improve model performance. Prior AI experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate metallographic microstructures for material acceptability and standards conformance.
Analyze heat-treatment processes and perform acceptance reviews using AMS 2750, ASTM E112, and related U.S. specifications.
Assess weld quality through macro-etch evaluation and apply CWI acceptance criteria to case studies.
Conduct coating inspections aligned with NACE/AMPP and SSPC protocols, including surface-integrity and protection requirements.
Review and disposition laser powder bed fusion, LPBF, additive-manufacturing defects using build and cross-sectional data.
Provide clear written and verbal feedback supporting accept or reject decisions and data-driven AI training insights.
Apply NADCAP, AWS, ASTM, and AMS standards across metal samples, weldments, coatings, and additive-manufacturing builds.
Qualifications
At least 8 years of hands-on experience making high-stakes accept or reject decisions involving micrographs, weld macros, fracture surfaces, coatings, or LPBF builds.
Advanced knowledge of ASTM, AMS, AWS, NADCAP, NACE/AMPP, and SSPC standards, including U.S. and international requirements.
Current or previous AWS Certified Welding Inspector, CWI, credential, or an equivalent metallurgical certification.
Demonstrated experience in metallographic analysis, heat-treatment evaluation, weld inspection, and industrial coating assessment.
Familiarity with additive-manufacturing processes, particularly LPBF and related defect mechanisms.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to clearly explain technical reasoning.
Experience collaborating remotely or digitally, with strong self-direction and accountability for deliverables.
Work Terms
Remote contract engagement, with U.S.-based candidates preferred.
Compensation
$80 to $130 per hour.
