About the role
We are looking for a 5- 8 Year Senior Platform Engineer to turn manual infrastructure requests into a fast, safe, self-service experience for our engineering teams.
Today, provisioning infrastructure involves handoffs between Cloud Services and Security. You will automate those handoffs, build reusable Infrastructure-as-Code on Azure, and launch the first version of our internal developer platform. Teams will be able to request and promote infrastructure on their own, through standardized and controlled workflows.
This is a builder role. Your customers are our own developers, and success means they ship faster with less friction and fewer tickets.
What you'll do
Automate handoffs. Map current Cloud Services and Security handoffs and operational processes, then automate them with the right tooling and workflows.
Build reusable IaC. Design and build Terraform modules and templates for common Azure infrastructure patterns, so teams start from a secure, approved baseline.
Launch self-service. Build the first version of our developer self-service portal, where teams request and provision infrastructure through standardized IaC.
Own environment promotion. Implement a promotion model that moves changes through dev, test and prod with approval gates, automated validation and rollback.
Improve CI/CD. Build and enhance multi-stage pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment.
Align with Kubernetes standards. Keep platform patterns consistent with the AIS Kubernetes standards, partnering with the Kubernetes team rather than owning the AKS build-out.
Document and hand off. Write patterns, runbooks and standards so internal teams can confidently operate and extend what you build.
What you bring
5+ years in cloud infrastructure, DevOps or platform engineering, with strong hands-on Azure experience.
Expert-level Terraform, including module design, state management and multi-environment strategies.
CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, including multi-stage pipelines and environment approvals.
Hands-on GitOps and environment promotion practices.
Experience building or extending an internal developer platform or portal, such as Backstage, Port, or a custom self-service frontend over IaC.
Working knowledge of AKS, containers and Helm.
Scripting and automation in PowerShell, Bash or Python.
API and workflow integration experience, for example Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or ServiceNow and Jira integrations.
Clear written communication, shown through documentation, runbooks or standards others have adopted.
Nice to have
Bicep experience alongside Terraform.
Argo CD or Flux in production.
Backstage plugin development or Port blueprint design.
Policy-as-code experience, such as Azure Policy, OPA or Sentinel.
HashiCorp Terraform or Microsoft Azure certifications (for example AZ-104, AZ-400 or AZ-305).
