We enable our customers to build, innovate, and grow, collectively reshaping the e-commerce industry.What you'll doBuild and maintain features in the service that powers every BigCommerce storefront, working with product managers and partner teams to shape the requirements and design the solution before building and releasing itAdd and extend GraphQL Storefront API queries and fields, following our schema guidelines so changes stay backward compatible for headless storefronts and third party integrationsHelp evolve the storefront service to support AI driven shopping, so that agents and shopping assistants can browse, build carts, and check out for shoppersInvestigate and fix production issues, and improve performance and reliability in the areas of the service you work onReview code from teammates and the other engineering teams that contribute to the storefront service, and grow your design skills through design reviews and pairing with senior engineersWho Are You5+ years of experience building backend services that run in productionEducation: Preferred minimum Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, SW, CE, MIS; or equivalent experienceProduction experience with Scala or Kotlin preferred; backend engineers experienced in other languages (e.g., Java, Go, etc.) who are eager to learn Scala are encouraged to applyExperience working with product managers or other stakeholders to turn requirements into a technical design, and delivering it to productionWorking knowledge of HTTP fundamentals such as caching headers, cookies and sessions, and timeoutsFamiliarity with GraphQL APIsFamiliarity with service to service communication and caching (e.g., gRPC, Redis, etc.)Experience debugging production issues using metrics, traces, and logs (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Sentry, etc.)Familiarity with releasing changes safely through feature flags and gradual rolloutsExperience writing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelinesUses AI coding assistants as a regular part of development (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, etc.), and reviews AI generated code with the same care as code written by handInterest in how AI agents use APIs (e.g., MCP, tool calling, etc.)Work Where You ThriveFor candidates based in the Austin or Atlanta metro area, the position follows a hybrid work model with three days per week in the office, balancing focused individual work with meaningful in-person collaboration.#LI-REMOTE#LI-GC1(Pay Transparency Range: $116,000.00 - $195,000.00)Compensation TransparencyThe national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post.Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location.
