About us

Sandbar Health is building an AI-native payvider reimagining health benefits in the D.C. metro area. We are building a health plan centered around concierge primary care clinics. Our mission is to provide a radically better healthcare experience built for the modern age, while improving health outcomes for patients, and reducing healthcare costs for employers.

We are backed and incubated by Route 66 Ventures, a local VC fund inside of a family office. We have a long-term-oriented, patient capital structure, prepared to fund a multi-decade journey to improve healthcare in the DMV.

Position Summary

We're looking for a senior full-stack engineer to help build the software behind Sandbar's health plan — across our broker platform, our member app, and the internal tooling we use to ship AI features. Your work will make an impact by designing systems that improve healthcare for patients and create better health benefit solutions for employers. We're a small team, so whoever takes this on owns real features end to end. We'd love to talk to strong full-stack engineers already based in the DMV.

What you would do

Build across the stack — frontend, backend, and infrastructure — wherever the highest-leverage work is

Ship real features across our broker platform, our member app, or our internal AI product-development harness, depending on where the team needs you most

Take a feature from a rough spec to production with minimal hand-holding

Make pragmatic architecture and product calls in a fast-moving, early-stage environment

Work directly with founders and the people using what you build — brokers, members, or internal teams

Help shape engineering practices and technical direction as one of a small number of engineers

Flag the work you're doing for the fifth time, and help us automate it

What we're looking for

Required

Strong full-stack engineering experience; comfortable owning a feature end-to-end

Comfortable with ambiguity and a fast, early-stage pace

A product mindset — you think about the user's outcome, not just the ticket

Based in the DC metro area

Preferred

Experience with AI-native or agent-forward product development

Healthcare, insurance, or other regulated-industry experience

Prior startup or 0→1 product experience

Compensation and benefits

$145,000–$175,000 base salary, plus a generous performance-based bonus

401(k) with employer match

4 weeks PTO

Best-in-class health benefits

About the team

Our team consists of some of the best and brightest across healthcare, technology, and investing. Our early team members come from Oscar Health, Cigna, DaVita, GW Medicine, Crossover Health, LinkedIn, and Omada, just to name a few. What unites us all is a passion to improve the healthcare system.

This is an opportunity to join an early-stage founding team with a huge vision. The daily work environment will be fast paced and interesting. You will feel intellectually challenged, appreciated by the people you work with, and have opportunities for rapid career growth.

This position requires current, unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor employment visas (e.g., H-1B) for this role, now or in the future.
