This isn't another tax season grind. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and lead the entire tax division of a fast-growing wealth management firm, reporting directly to the founder. We are looking for a CPA or CPA-track professional who is tired of being a technician in a traditional accounting firm and is ready to become a strategist, leader, and future partner. The Opportunity: Build Your Legacy
As our founding tax expert, you will move beyond compliance to architect the firm's integrated tax planning and preparation capability. You will be the strategic partner to our founder, Billy Voyles—a former executive coach to the nation’s top financial advisors—who will personally mentor you on the advisory and business-building side of wealth management. You won't just be an employee; you will be the architect of a core firm competency, with a clear and defined path toward firm leadership, P&L responsibility, and potential equity ownership.
Who You Are: An Ambitious Strategist & Future Leader
A Proven Tax Professional Ready for More. You have 3-7+ years of experience in public accounting or an advisory firm. You’ve mastered the 1040, but you’re bored with compliance and want to focus on high-value strategic work like Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, and multi-year tax modeling.
An Aspiring Advisor. You are intrigued by the intersection of tax and wealth management and see this as your ideal entry point into a more holistic, client-facing advisory career.
An Entrepreneur at Heart. The thought of building systems, shaping a service model, and evaluating potential CPA firm acquisitions excites you. You thrive in a high-growth environment where you can make a visible impact, not just fill a seat.
A Trusted Communicator. You can translate complex tax law into clear, actionable advice that builds trust and confidence with pre-retirees and high-net-worth families.
Primary Responsibilities & Strategic Impact
Lead Tax Strategy. You will design and implement proactive, sophisticated tax mitigation strategies for the firm’s clients, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the advisory team to deliver integrated financial plans.
Build the Tax Practice. You will architect the firm's tax service delivery model, from technology selection (Holistiplan, etc.) to workflow design, creating a scalable and profitable new division.
Serve as the In-House Expert. You will prepare and review individual and business tax returns (1040s, 1120s, 1065s) while serving as the primary tax advisor for our client base.
Drive Firm Growth. You will play a key role in strategic initiatives, including evaluating and integrating potential acquisitions of local CPA firms to accelerate growth.
Qualifications
Required. Bachelor's or Master's in Accounting. Actively pursuing CPA licensure, or currently a licensed CPA. 3-5+ years of meaningful tax preparation and planning experience. An active Life & Health Insurance License (or the ability to obtain it immediately).
Preferred. An active CPA license. Experience in a wealth management setting. Familiarity with Minnesota and Wisconsin state tax rules. Interest in pursuing Series 65 or CFP® designations over time.
