Responsibilities
You will gather requirements, design, and write all aspects of our web stack, leveraging React, Go, Postgres, and Docker on AWS infrastructure to build websites and supporting back‑end systems such as Batch & Lambda routines, REST APIs, and databases. You will write data munging / cleaning / pipelining routines.
The role fits into an existing team of passionate developers and earth science modelers with backgrounds in hydrology, fluid dynamics, meteorology, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS), environmental science, civil engineering, and statistics. Projects are version‑controlled in Git (GitHub). Some projects involve publicly accessible websites and/or open‑source codebases. Many projects involve geospatial aspects and interactive maps leveraging vector and raster data.

Required Skills & Experience
10 years of experience in web development using ReactJS, NextJS, JavaScript, or TypeScript
Bachelor's degree or professional experience in computer science, web development, earth sciences, hydrology, fluid dynamics, meteorology, GIS, or statistics
Proficiency in basics of HTML, CSS, SQL (preferably PostgreSQL), Git, Linux, and Python
Experience building and consuming REST APIs
Strong problem solving and persistence
Professional communication
Willingness to showcase skills through a portfolio, example apps, or shared code
Desired Skills & Experience
Docker: development of images and container orchestration
GIS programming: GDAL, PostGIS
GIS web map app frameworks: OpenLayers, MapBox, Leaflet
GIS web data services (serving and consuming): WMS, WFS, WCS
AWS: S3, EC2, Batch, Lambda, RDS
Python analysis: numpy, xarray, scipy
Python GIS: rasterio, geopandas, shapely
