Job description
Senior SharePoint / Microsoft 365 Consultant (Contract)
Contract, 12-month minimum, with extension likely based on the project plan
Location: Remote. Candidates must live in or near the Northern Ohio area for tax and client purposes.
About the Opportunity
Our client, a publicly traded leader in the financial and tax planning space, is modernizing its Microsoft 365 environment. They are looking for a senior consultant to architect and implement SharePoint solutions, with a focus on a new intranet and departmental/hub-site structures. The consultant will lead architecture and governance while working hands-on alongside the internal technical team and leaving them able to run the environment themselves.
This is a consulting and architecture role. It is not a SharePoint administrator or pure developer position.
Responsibilities
Lead requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and translate their needs into a clear SharePoint/M365 architecture
Design and implement the intranet, hub-site structure, and departmental sites
Define information architecture, navigation, content types, metadata, and permissions models
Establish governance: site provisioning, ownership, lifecycle, sharing policies, and naming standards
Work hands-on with the technical team on build, configuration, and rollout
Explain and document architectural decisions to technical and non-technical audiences
Transfer knowledge through documentation, working sessions, and coaching so the internal team can sustain the platform
Contribute to the project plan, roadmap, and phased delivery approach
Required Qualifications
Senior-level experience architecting and implementing SharePoint Online / Microsoft 365 environments end to end
Proven delivery of intranets and hub-site architectures
Strong consulting skills, including requirements gathering, stakeholder management, and communicating design tradeoffs
Demonstrated experience building governance frameworks
Comfortable working hands-on in a collaborative team rather than only advising from a distance
Strong documentation and knowledge-transfer skills
Residence in or near the Northern Ohio area
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in financial services, tax, or another regulated industry (security, compliance, records management)
Familiarity with Microsoft Purview, sensitivity labels, and retention policies
Experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, and Teams integration
Experience with migration from legacy platforms or file shares to SharePoint Online
Microsoft 365 certifications (e.g., MS-102, MS-700)
