Job TitleCommunity Servings' mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals and medically tailored groceries to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. In addition, we are committed to prioritizing racial and economic justice and health equity in all our programs and business practices.We are a dynamic and fast-growing agency at the forefront of the "Food is Medicine" field, providing over 1M medically tailored meals annually to clients and their families experiencing illness and food insecurity in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, our work strongly focuses on supporting the regional local food system, delivering high-quality nutrition education to the community, and hosting an on-site food-service workforce development program. Over the past 36 years, the agency has provided 15M+ free, scratch-made meals.SummaryResponsible for shipping and receiving and signing for all food supplies and staplesEssential Duties And ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.Thoroughly inspects the conditions of product received through visual, smell, touch and temperature, ingredient labels and expiration dates.Conducts timely and proper storage of all received goods.Performs daily maintenance of the walk-in refrigerator and dry food storage area by rotating the stock and ensuring the walk in is free of debris and spills. Notifying the Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager of improperly labeled or wrapped food.Drive a refrigerated box truck between our Mansfield and Jamaica Plain locations. This includes loading inventory, properly securing the load, unloading at the destination, and moving the goods to the correct location.Maintains an accurate inventory chart of Kitchen staff's daily usage of food staples and disposables.Adheres to all enforced safety and sanitation practices.Provides supply support to the Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager for the Kitchen's daily operationOversees the volunteer staff working in shipping and receiving including training as required.Attends and participates in the bi-weekly Kitchen operational meeting and the monthly staff meeting.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Skill to effectively communicate with a multi-cultural population.Skill in the effective use of English language to read and express ideas/facts orally.Sound organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and attention to detail and follow through skills.Ability to drive a refrigerated truck of GVW 14,000+ lbs.Must possess a Massachusetts driver's license and provide the Agency a driving record.Must be certified to drive a forklift.Must be able to work for reasonable amounts of time in cold storage (-10 degrees)Must successfully pass a CORI background screen.Bi-lingual speaking ability (e.g. Spanish) is a plus.Education/ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent and one to three years' experience as a Shipper/Receiver or General Clerk in a high-volume food production establishment.Demonstrated experience in receiving and tracking inventory and with safety and food handling sanitation standards.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNoneWork EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
