Job description
Wallaby Search & Placement is seeking a hands-on Shop Manager to lead Knox's heavy truck and equipment repair shop in Temple, GA. In this role, you will own the day-to-day operation of a full-service shop, leading a team of 10 to 20 technicians, painters, and shop personnel across mechanical repair, body work, fabrication, and refinishing.
Reporting directly to company ownership, you will keep jobs moving on schedule, hold the line on quality, and serve as the customer's point of contact, from drop-off to delivery. The ideal candidate is a shop leader with a background in heavy truck, fleet, or equipment repair (or a similar industrial setting), who pairs strong mechanical aptitude with the organizational skills to run a busy floor and the leadership ability to build a team around them.
About the Company
Knox is a full-service heavy truck and equipment repair, service, and refinishing shop based in Temple, GA. The team works on a wide range of large commercial trucks and equipment, including garbage trucks, concrete mixers, and other specialized vocational equipment.
With mechanical and equipment repairs, body work, fabrication, sandblasting, painting, and complete refinishing all under one roof, Knox gives customers one shop to handle the job from start to finish. Owner-led and growing, it's a place where the Shop Manager has a direct hand in how the business performs and where it goes next.
You Will
Run daily shop operations and workflow, prioritizing jobs and keeping work on schedule
Schedule and coordinate technicians, painters, and other shop personnel across mechanical, body, fabrication, and paint work
Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of ~20 employees
Own the shop's safety program and compliance, and keep the floor safe, clean, and organized
Maintain high quality-control standards across repairs, service, body work, and painting, inspecting completed work before equipment goes back to the customer
Keep customers informed on job status, timelines, and additional repair needs
Coordinate parts, materials, and outside services
Partner with ownership to improve efficiency, profitability, and overall shop performance
You Have
Previous experience in a heavy truck, heavy equipment, fleet, automotive, industrial, or similar shop environment (preferred)
Supervisory or management experience, with the ability to lead a team, solve problems, and hold people accountable
Strong mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of repair needs
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to juggle multiple jobs and employees
A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to quality
Comfort working hands-on in a shop environment
Experience with refuse trucks, concrete mixers, vocational trucks, hydraulics, fabrication, sandblasting, or industrial painting (a plus)
