About this opportunity

Job description

Sierra Experts is looking for a Software Developer who builds real business systems—not demos. You will design, write, and support custom applications and ERPs for manufacturing, healthcare, and other critical-systems customers, working side-by-side with our team in Robinson Township.

Day to day, this role lives in Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft stack: C# / .NET, SQL Server, and the integrations that keep production data moving. You will turn customer requirements into durable software, modernize legacy platforms when needed, and ship work that operations teams actually run on.

This is an in-office position. U.S. citizenship is required. Local candidates preferred.

What you’ll do

Design, develop, and maintain custom business applications and ERP solutions using Visual Studio (C# / .NET).

Build and extend features across the stack—desktop, web, services, and database—matching the needs of each customer engagement.

Work with internal teams and customers to clarify requirements, propose practical designs, and deliver production-ready software.

Write and optimize T-SQL against Microsoft SQL Server (schema design, stored procedures, data integrity, performance).

Integrate systems via APIs, file/data exchange (XML, JSON, CSV), and other interfaces common to ERP and line-of-business apps.

Support and evolve existing Sierra-built applications;

troubleshoot issues across app, data, and Windows environments.

Participate in modernization work (for example, migrating legacy platforms such as AS/400 environments into Sierra-designed ERPs).

Use source control, work-item tracking, and change control so releases stay auditable and reversible.

Contribute to automated and manual testing;

document designs, code,and issue resolution clearly.

Follow secure coding and operational practices appropriate for customers who cannot afford downtime or data loss.

Keep learning—new frameworks, tools, and customer domains as projects demand.

What you bring

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.

At least 3 years of professional software development experience (5+ preferred), with solid delivery of business or line-of-business applications.

Strong day-to-day proficiency with Microsoft Visual Studio and C# / .NET (Framework and/or .NET Core / .NET 6+).

Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server: relational design, queries, stored procedures, and performance basics.

Comfort building or maintaining ASP.NET applications (Web Forms, MVC, and/or ASP.NET Core) and related web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

Experience with REST APIs / web services and structured data formats (JSON, XML).

Familiarity with Windows development and administration basics;

PowerShell is a plus.

Clear written and verbal communication with technical teammates and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to own problems end-to-end—debug, fix, verify, and document—both independently and with the team.

U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance if needed for specific customer work.

Must work on-site in our Pittsburgh / Robinson Township office. Local candidates only.

Nice to have

Custom ERP, manufacturing, distribution, rental, or other vertical line-of-business application experience.

Legacy modernization (AS/400 / IBM i, RPG, or similar) and data migration into modern SQL-backed systems.

DevOps / CI-CD exposure (Azure DevOps, Git, build/release pipelines).

Experience with Crystal Reports, SSRS, or similar reporting tools.

Familiarity with Microsoft 365 / Azure services used alongside on-prem line-of-business apps.

Effective use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or similar, while maintaining human oversight, code review, testing, and accountability for production code.
