Work Environment: Outdoor/Field, 12-hour shifts, weekend and holiday work required.As a certified and commissioned police officer, Special Agents with the Norfolk Southern Police Department work closely with communities, other law enforcement, and government agencies to advance railway safety and ensure the security of our infrastructure, community, and employees.Principal Duties:Patrol terminals, yards, right of ways, and other railroad property to ensure security.Safeguard property, employees, patrons, and goods in transitConduct inspections, background check, and criminal investigations as assigned.Implement prevention techniques, inspect friend, apply security devices, and conduct surveillances to deter crimes against NS property.Respond to police calls for service and act as a first responder, facilitating effective coordination with fire and rescue, hazmat, and environmental, law enforcement, and or other emergency services.Required License/Certification:Certified Law Enforcement Officer and/orCommissioned Law Enforcement Officer and/orCommissioned (Railway) Police officerSkills and Abilities:Communication SkillsDecision MakingAnalyzing ProblemsCareer Path:Supervisor Special agent, Special Agent in Charge, Regional Superintendent PoliceAdditional Information:Medical Requirements: This position is safety sensitive, all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical screening that includes a physical, hearing, vision and drug/alcohol test.Background Check: Successful clearance of the following is required for this position.Criminal background checkReference checkDriving historyEmployment historySSN verificationWork Conditions Environment: Outdoor/Field Shift Work: Yes On-Call: Yes Weekend Work: Yes Travel Required: 3 - 5 Days per MonthCompany Overview:Since 1827, Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) and its predecessor companies have safely moved the goods and materials that drive the U.S. economy.
