Job description
Special Deputy-Transport AgentThe Sheriff delegates the duty to provide the transportation of inmates/prisoners to Special Deputy-Transport Agents (the "Agents"), which are deputized to go armed and to use force, but not to make arrests. Under the general supervision of the Support Services Captain and the Transport Agent Supervisor, the Agents will attend on the Circuit Courts of Brown County by conveying inmates/prisoners to appropriate facilities/locations while providing for their care, conduct, control and safety during their time in the Agents' custody. The Agents will also be required to complete other inmate/prisoner transportation related duties as assigned. The Agents may also be responsible for greeting and screening all persons coming through the single point public entrance of the courthouse. It is the Agents' daily responsibility to inspect and operate all screening equipment. Screening equipment includes and may not be limited to an x-ray device, a metal-detecting walk-through doorway and a hand-held wand. The screening officer may be required to deny entrance to the courthouse in the event that a person does not cooperate with the security screening procedures. Flexible scheduling available, along with flexibility on number of hours worked. Retired security or police personnel encouraged to apply. This is an LTE position which means there are no benefits given with the role.Essential DutiesThe following job duties listed are examples of those required by the Agents, but are not considered to be a complete list of duties to be performed:Transport inmates/prisoners in a safe/secure/professional manner according to policy and procedureInspect and maintain transport vehicles to ensure mechanical safetyConduct searches of transport vehicles and all areas that will be occupied the persons/prisoners prior to and after all transportsConduct searches of all persons/prisoners prior to them entering the transport vehicleProperly restrain persons/prisoners with the correct restraint system for that individual's needsBe familiar with and able to operate all types of restraint systems usedPrepare/complete all necessary paperwork related to the transportEnsure correct paperwork is present for each inmate/prisoner on the transportBe able to plan for the timing and routing of each transport, to include any special security precautions that would warrant emergency escape proceduresBe able to identify and react to emerging dangerous conditions including security threats and weather conditionsCommunicate with other facilities in reference to arrivals and departures or inmates/prisonersConduct themselves in a professional manner when communicating in person and on the phone with other agencies/jurisdictionsSuccessfully complete all required training as required by law, and as may be required by the SheriffNon-essential duties include computer entry and retrieval.Minimum Qualifications RequiredEducation and Experience: Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited university or college in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.Licenses and Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver's License; Ability to obtain CPR CertificationKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to operate a motor vehicle safelyAbility to train on security functions and use of force optionsAbility to effectively operate screening/scanning equipmentAbility to effectively communicate with court staff, sworn deputies and the general publicAbility to prepare clear, accurate written reportsAbility to follow written and oral instructionsAbility to establish and maintain relationships with the public and other governmental agency personnelAbility to complete required trainingAbility to use a computer, software and related hardwareAbility to work the required hours of the positionAbility to maintain a satisfactory driving recordAbility to react in an emergency and make sound, rational decisions demonstrating good judgementAbility to travel out of stateKnowledge of department policies and proceduresKnowledge and ability to perform first aidKnowledge, skill and ability to safely handle department firearms
