Job description

Special Education Paraprofessional

Brush School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. Under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher, the paraprofessional will provide instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. This position plays a vital role in helping students reach their individual learning goals in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.

Assist the special education teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and instructional plans tailored to each student's unique needs

Provide one-on-one and small group instructional support in reading, writing, math, and other academic areas

Assist students with daily living skills, personal care routines, and adaptive tasks as outlined in their IEPs

Support students with behavioral management strategies using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques

Facilitate student participation in general education classrooms and school activities to promote inclusion

Monitor, record, and document student progress toward IEP goals and report observations to the supervising teacher

Accompany students during transitions, lunch, recess, and extracurricular activities as needed

Assist students with physical disabilities, including positioning, mobility assistance, and the use of adaptive equipment

Communicate regularly and professionally with teachers, parents, and other school staff

Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to all district policies, FERPA regulations, and IDEA requirements

Participate in team meetings, professional development, and IEP meetings as requested

Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or building administrator

High school diploma or GED required

Associate's degree or 48+ college credit hours preferred, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (required for Title I-funded positions)

Prior experience working with students with disabilities in a school or related setting preferred

Knowledge of or willingness to learn special education laws, IEP processes, and disability awareness

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to follow written and verbal directions from supervisors

Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment

Basic proficiency in technology and student information systems

Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds as required to assist students

Ability to move throughout the school building, including outdoor areas

May be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) when assisting with personal care

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions
