Special Education Teacher-EI Classroom
Grosse Ile Township School is seeking a dynamic, energetic Special Education teacher who maintains a positive learning environment, holds high academic expectations, and creates a student-centered classroom while building rapport with students, parents, and staff. We are looking for exceptional candidates who will assist our school in creating an exemplary learning community where everyone seeks and implements strategies for improving student achievement and growth. This person will work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to achieve goals with a common purpose focused on student learning. The Special Education teacher shall deliver the State of Michigan Curriculum as regulated by the Michigan Department of Education.
Job Qualifications
Education: Minimum Bachelor Degree in Education with a Valid Teaching Certificate
Endorsement Required: SE (Emotional Impairment)
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
Must possess organizational and technology skills, be detail oriented, have a strong teamwork ethic and excellent communication skills
Job Responsibilities
Provide instruction to a class, individual students, or groups of students using a variety of instructional strategies.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum and IEP goals.
Plan lessons, including activities such as preparing learning objectives and goals and designing formative and summative assessments.
Facilitate learning in the classroom (e.g., maintain discipline, encourage participation, consult with parents, school staff, and other care providers to identify and address social, emotional, and developmental needs.)
Evaluate student performance.
Maintain records and document student progress (e.g. record grades and absences, provide progress reports.)
Diagnostic testing relating to special education eligibility, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
Maintain contact with parents in regard to student performance through activities such as parent-teacher conferences, phone communications, progress reports, letters, and special meetings.
Maintain professional development through such activities as coursework, conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional journals.
Perform various administrative activities (e.g., attend staff meetings, maintain equipment and supplies, copy materials, and coordinate department activities.)
Prepare lesson materials, supplies, and equipment.
Monitor student behavior both inside and outside the classroom (e.g., during class, in hallways between classes, during assemblies, extracurricular activities meetings or events, fire drills, or other group activities.)
Perform other related duties as assigned.
