Job description
Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary students as a Special Education Teacher specializing in cognitive impairment, with a focus on autism spectrum disorder programming. This full-time position offers the chance to work within a dedicated team to make a meaningful difference for learners with significant self-regulation and complex communication needs, as well as mental health challenges. The contract runs from ASAP through June 11, 2027, with consistent weekday hours from 7:30 am to 2:45 pm at a vibrant educational center.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Special Education Teaching Certification for Cognitive Impairment (CI) in Michigan-required
Experience or deep interest in working with students on the autism spectrum
Strong background in crisis management and behavioral interventions
Familiarity or expertise with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies
Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement individualized education plans
Passion for fostering growth in students with complex learning and communication profiles
Responsibilities: Provide specialized instruction adapted for students with cognitive impairments, emphasizing ASD approaches
Design and deliver lessons, interventions, and supports to address academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional goals
Employ strategies to facilitate self-regulation, communication, and functional living skills
Contribute actively to team meetings and the development of educational plans
Collaborate with related service providers, families, and mental health professionals
Maintain accurate records and ensure full compliance with all state and federal requirements
