Job description
Speech Pathologist
Provides speech and language services to students from preschool age through 21, identified and requiring this service.
Essential job functions include:
Provides direct speech and language therapy to students.
Diagnoses and assesses specific disorders of students with speech difficulties.
Interprets assessments completed by outside professionals to identify student needs.
Writes Individual Education Plans (IEP), taking into account students' strengths and needs with age-appropriate and educationally relevant goals and objectives for students which are appropriate and measurable.
Provides hearing screenings as needed
Administers formal and informal assessments of students regarding speech articulation skills, language skills, social language skills, fluency skills, and/or voice skills.
Serves as collaborative member of the school staff.
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the admissions, review, and dismissal Team.
Delivers individual, small group, and classroom therapy to students identified with speech and language disorders.
Collaborates with and/or trains teachers, special educators, parents, or other professionals in regard to speech articulation, language, fluency, social language, and/or voice impairments as well as related disabilities (e.g. developmental delay, autism, hearing impairment, etc.).
Develops and implements low or no-tech augmentative communication systems.
Documents student time, date and progress in therapy and bills medical assistance for those students who give permission to bill medical assistance.
Provides necessary referrals and follow-up with the findings.
Documents data collection for daily therapy sessions.
Prepares quarterly progress notes and interim progress reports and maintaining and submitting all necessary Medical Assistance documents for billing.
Minimum requirements include:
Master's Degree in speech and language therapy is preferred.
Experience with preschool through secondary school students is preferred.
Completion of Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) is preferred.
Maryland State Department of Education certification and/or Maryland State Licensure is required.
Speech-Language Pathologist license from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene of Maryland
Knowledge, skills and abilities include:
Knowledge of assistive technology service and assessment.
Skill with interpersonal communication and human relations.
Ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
Physical demands include light work, exerting moderate but not constant physical effort to perform light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds), visual perception and discrimination, the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, perceive and discriminate color, perceive odors, and require oral communications.
