The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide, or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500. The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a.2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employee/contractors providing services to our local districts and students. The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.

Position Details

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Purpose Of Position: To provide direct student therapy and consultation to school personnel and parents in programming for eligible students. To evaluate, develop, and implement plans in consultation with other disciplines in regard to individual speech and language needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech & Language Pathology

State of Michigan Licensure Certificate of Clinical Competency from the ASHA (CCC-SLP)

Meets school-based speech provider qualifications as outlined in the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE)

Proficient with the use of technology

Excellent oral and written communication skills

High moral character and excellent attendance record

Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents, and the community

Ability to handle high volume of work, multiple tasks under strict timelines and frequent interruptions

Pleasant disposition, neat appearance, self-initiating and ability to work in harmony with other employees

Duties And Responsibilities:

Provide direct and consultation services to eligible individuals from birth through age 26

Design and implement speech & language related elements of each child/student's IEP

Provide consultation and training to staff and parents in support of IEP goals

Screen and conduct comprehensive evaluations within scope of practice to assist teams in determining eligibility for special education services

Participate in a variety of team meetings within school and community settings to assist in identifying eligible children and support their full access to education

Ensure frequent progress monitoring of all speech & language goals and report progress regularly as required

Maintain thorough and accurate documentation to include student attendance, service logs, and required Medicaid submissions

Contribute time and expertise to the regional school-based speech & language professionals' group

Serve as requested as a building level coach in areas within the scope of practice such as AAC, PODD, and/or START

Maintain high degree of confidentiality in program operation and with student/staff information

Coordinate workflow, establish priorities and allocation of work to meet deadlines

As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours and travel within ISD and state.

Wages And Fringes: Commensurate with EUPIEA Master Agreement. Period Of Employment: School year, 190 days
