nThe University of Miami/UHealth Department of Otolaryngology has an exciting opportunity for a full time Speech Pathologist 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Speech Pathologist 1 (H) assesses and treats individuals referred with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments. The incumbent takes part in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, other clinical providers, and family members to provide evidence-based treatment approaches.

nCORE JOB FUNCTIONS

nnnAdministers diagnostic assessments to individuals with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments.

n

nnDevelops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials.

n

nnEstablishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling.

n

nnCollaborates in a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, other clinical providers, and family members in the development and revision of treatment recommendations.

n

nnMaintains current knowledge of new technologies and approaches in the field.

n

nnParticipates in ongoing continuing education and research opportunities within or outside the department.

n

nnProvides supervision to graduate students and clinical fellows.

n

nnProvides culturally responsive services with the understanding that growth in cultural competence is a lifelong journey.

n

nnUtilizes electronic medical record and/or other documentation tools to detail patient interactions. Provides direct patient care interaction/encounters via approved telehealth platforms.

n

nnMaintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.

n

nnAdheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

n

nCORE QUALIFICATIONS

nEducation:

nMaster’s Degree in relevant field

nCertification and Licensing:

nActive FL Speech Pathologist license

nExperience:

nCompletion of clinical fellowship and/or 1 year of relevant experience

nKnowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

nnnSkill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

n

nnAbility to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

n

nnAbility to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

n

nnAbility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

n

n nDEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

nDepartment Specific Functions

nnnExperience performing and interpreting laryngeal videostroboscopy, acoustics, and aerodynamic measures is required.

n

nnExperience performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies is required.

n

nnExperience performing and interpreting flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing is preferred. Familiarity with rehabilitation following total laryngectomy, including tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, use of an electrolarynx, and application of heat and moisture exchanger systems is preferred.

n

nnFamiliarity with the application of tracheostomy speaking valves is preferred.

n

nnMaintaining a caseload of speech, voice, and swallowing therapy patients with diverse diagnoses is required.

n

nnParticipation in a multidisciplinary team staffed by specialists in laryngology and voice pathology as well as partners in vocal pedagogy and other medical specialties is required.

n

nnParticipation in a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment to provide comprehensive care to patients with head and neck cancer in outpatient settings is required.

n

nnParticipation in academic activities within specialty areas is desired.

n

nnParticipation in outreach activities within specialty areas is desired.

n

nnAdheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

n nDepartment Specific Qualifications

nExperience:

nnnMust have at least introductory experience with performing voice evaluations and voice therapy

n

nnPrior clinical rotations and/or externships in voice, swallowing, and/or head and neck cancer clinics
