SQL Database EngineerDuration: 6+ Months CTH Location: Philadelphia, PA & Whitehouse Station, NJ (Hybrid) (3 Days in office & 2 Days Remote)The Global Actuarial Systems team is a small, agile group of technology enthusiasts. We are tasked with solving the complex data needs of both US and International reserving and pricing actuaries. Our group is responsible for collating data from several disparate systems and platforms to provide analytic solutions for the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer. Our systems are the foundation for the loss triangles which are reported externally and ensure we have the capital to pay future claims. We are looking for someone who has experience working within Agile framework. This shows that they have worked in an environment like ours. We do our enhancements and deployments in an iterative way, and we follow planning?design?implementation life cycle. This is not to say we don't want someone who can interface with the business and communicate clearly and interpret business requirements into technical specifications (to an extent. We have BA's that will handle most of that). But a good developer would be able to estimate how long it might take to code a certain process (given clear requirements) and there are some PM skills involved in that. This is more of a general comment on what we're looking for in the interview.WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ONExpanding our new claim data warehouse responsible for producing actuarial loss trianglesImplementing BI processes so end users can quickly and easily derive value from billion row datasetsCreating of new ETL process to accurately stitch data togetherHelping to design the future cloud architecture and migration of the warehouseInvestigating, diagnosing, and actioning on business questions and requestsDirect handling of production support and maintenance of existing financial feedsDelivering solutions on time and within budget, meeting both internal change management standards and external SOX controlsQUALIFICATIONSMicrosoft SQL Server guru with strong data warehousing fundamentalsHighly skilled at optimizing SQL Statements for efficient ETLProficient in DevOps tools (GIT, Jenkins, Octopus)Proficient in other coding languages (eg R, Python, .NET) and BI solutions (eg Shiny, Cognos, PowerBI)Adept at working within Agile project management frameworkExtensive technical analysis and investigative capabilitiesStrong communication skills, comfortable interfacing with senior business usersFinancial/actuarial data, application, or practical experience a plusExperience of at least 5 years as a SQL Engineer.
