Title: Sr Cybersecurity Engineer
Location: Chicago (3 days per week onsite - M-W or T-Th)

Pay Rate / Salary (Ranges OK) : $95-$110/hr
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to strengthen enterprise security and resilience across a complex technology environment. This hands-on role combines incident response, forensic investigation, cyber recovery planning, and implementation of security controls. The engineer will collaborate with technical and business teams, lead priority initiatives, and help improve detection, response, and restoration capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead investigations into significant security incidents, including triage, containment, forensic analysis, root-cause assessment, remediation, and system recovery.
Develop and regularly validate cyber-recovery procedures, ransomware response playbooks, exercises, and automation.
Design and support isolated recovery approaches that enable verification and safe restoration of business-critical systems.
Implement and improve security capabilities across cloud, on-premises infrastructure, endpoints, networks, and, where applicable, operational technology.
Use monitoring and security-event platforms to investigate anomalous behavior, refine detection coverage, and identify control gaps.
Apply threat-informed practices and common frameworks such as MITRE Telecommunication&CK to improve prevention, detection, and response.
Advise cross-functional teams on secure architecture, hardening, vulnerability remediation, and practical risk reduction.
Drive security-engineering projects, work with external technology providers, and maintain clear technical documentation.
Present incident findings and recovery recommendations to stakeholders and mentor less-experienced team members.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of relevant technical experience, including 5+ years in hands-on cybersecurity engineering, security operations, or incident response.
Demonstrated leadership in incident response and the ability to explain investigation findings and recommended actions to technical and nontechnical audiences.
Working knowledge of scripting or automation (such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash), cloud security, and enterprise security tooling (SIEM, EDR, network security, and vulnerability management).
Strong practical experience in at least two areas: detection engineering, threat hunting, cloud security, application security, operational-technology security, security automation, or penetration testing.
Experience analyzing security telemetry and developing repeatable runbooks, response workflows, and operational improvements.
Familiarity with vulnerability assessment, remediation prioritization, and risk tracking.
Ability to manage competing priorities, independently lead technical projects, and collaborate effectively with internal teams and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience securing AI-enabled or generative-AI solutions, including data protection, model-related risks, and secure usage controls.
Exposure to operational technology, industrial environments, critical infrastructure, or complex recovery scenarios.
Knowledge of specialized OT asset-discovery or monitoring solutions.
Relevant certification, such as CISSP, CEH, OSCP, or a comparable credential.
Education
Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
