Job description
SIMKHAI is searching for a Sr. Director, Global Logistics & Distribution. This position will own the end-to-end physical and transactional flow of product — from factory shipment through distribution, to customer delivery, and back through returns — across wholesale, DTC/ecommerce, and owned retail stores. This role is the single point of accountability for on-time, in-full delivery across all channels, and for the accuracy, efficiency, and cost discipline of every touchpoint goods pass through between production and the customer's hands. Success is measured in fill rate, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, cost per unit shipped, and chargeback/compliance performance with wholesale partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Order Management & EDI
Own order-to-fulfillment execution across wholesale, DTC/ecommerce, and retail channels, partnering with Finance/Credit on payment terms, credit approval, invoicing, and collections
Verify customer account information (ship-to/bill-to, tax exemption status, account setup) is accurate and current before order release
Confirm payment terms and credit approval status prior to shipment; hold and escape orders that fall outside approved terms or credit limits (partnering with Finance/Credit on resolution)
Maintain EDI accuracy and compliance across all wholesale trading partners (Saks Global, Bloomingdale's, Harrods, Shopbop, Nordstrom, etc.), minimizing chargebacks tied to ASN, invoice, and routing errors
Work directly with customers to resolve order discrepancies (PO mismatches, ship date conflicts, quantity/style errors, address or terms issues) prior to shipment, ensuring every order ships accurately and on approved terms
Serve as escalation point for order exceptions, allocation conflicts, and partner compliance issues
3PL & Distribution Center Management
Manage global 3PL relationships (performance, cost, capacity planning, contract negotiation/renewal)
Own DC value-added services (VAS): kitting, ticketing, folding, packaging customization, retail-ready prep per wholesale partner routing guides
Set and monitor SLAs with 3PL partners; run regular business reviews and drive corrective action plans
Develop seasonal logistics and DC capacity plans around market deliveries, product launches, retail openings, and peak ecommerce periods; identify capacity and delivery risks in advance
Logistics & Transportation
Own inbound logistics from factories/vendors to DCs (ocean, air, domestic drayage) in coordination with sourcing/production
Manage outbound logistics from DC to retail stores, wholesale accounts, and DTC/ecommerce customers
Own carrier relationships, including carrier contract/agreement negotiation, renewal, and management, and freight cost management (partner with Finance on freight budget and variance)
Develop freight strategies by region, channel, and service level; continuously optimize air/ocean mix, carrier selection, consolidation, routing, and delivery terms to reduce cost while protecting delivery requirements
Drive on-time delivery performance against wholesale ship windows and DTC delivery promises
Own DTC/ecommerce fulfillment operations end-to-end — pick/pack, carrier selection and rate shopping, shipping SLAs, and cost-to-serve for direct-to-consumer orders
Manage shipping and replenishment logistics to owned retail stores, including transfer shipments and store-level delivery windows
Lead logistics and distribution readiness for new retail stores, concessions, international markets, franchise partners, and distributors, including inventory flow, replenishment, returns, customs, local delivery, and operational setup
Inventory Management
Own inventory accuracy across all locations — DC, in-transit, ecommerce, and owned retail stores
Partner with Planning/Merchandising on allocation, replenishment, and inventory health (aged/excess visibility) across wholesale, ecommerce, and retail
Maintain real-time inventory visibility across channels to support omnichannel fulfillment (e.g., ship-from-store or BOPIS, where applicable)
Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, and shrink/loss investigation at DC and retail store locations
Returns Management
Own reverse logistics across DTC/ecommerce, owned retail, and wholesale (customer returns, chargebacks, RTV, defective returns)
Design and enforce returns processing SLAs (turnaround time, disposition accuracy, restock rate) for both ecommerce customer returns and wholesale RTV
Partner with Finance on returns reserve accuracy and root-cause reporting to reduce return rates
International Regulatory & Trade Compliance
Own import/export compliance globally, including customs entry accuracy, HTS classification, and country-of-origin documentation
Manage customs power of attorney (POA), broker relationships, and CBP/ACE compliance across all import channels
Ensure denied-party/restricted-party screening and trade sanctions compliance on all shipments & 3PL/freight partners
Maintain compliance with destination-country import regulations for international retail, franchise, and distribution partners (labeling, product safety, VAT/duty, restricted materials)
Partner with Legal/Finance to stay current on evolving trade regulations (tariff changes, free trade agreements, customs valuation rules) and assess business impact
Operational Excellence, Systems & Controls
Establish, document, and continuously improve SOPs and controls across order management, inventory, warehousing, logistics, returns, and trade compliance
Identify recurring operational failures and lead root-cause analysis and corrective action, reducing reliance on manual workarounds and one-off fixes
Own operational data integrity and system workflows across ERP, WMS, OMS, EDI, and related logistics platforms
Partner with Finance and Technology to ensure inventory, orders, shipments, returns, and transactional data reconcile accurately across systems
Partner with Finance to ensure accurate reconciliation of inventory movements, freight and duty expenses, 3PL charges, returns, customer deductions, and operational accruals
Establish controls to identify billing discrepancies, duplicate charges, inventory variances, and preventable chargebacks
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner closely with Planning, Production/Sourcing, Wholesale Sales, Ecommerce, Retail Ops, and Finance
Report S&OP-aligned KPIs (fill rate, OTIF, DC turn time, cost per unit, EDI error rate, return rate) to CEO/Executive team monthly
Lead, develop, and scale a lean, high-accountability operations team appropriate for a growth-stage business
KPIs / Success Metrics
On-time-in-full (OTIF) delivery rate
Wholesale chargeback rate / EDI error rate
Order accuracy rate (orders shipped with correct customer, terms, and product info - no post-ship corrections needed)
Inventory accuracy (cycle count variance) across DC, ecommerce, and retail store locations
Ecommerce fulfillment speed and cost-to-serve (order-to-ship time, shipping cost per order)
Returns processing turnaround time and return rate trend (ecommerce and wholesale)
3PL SLA adherence
Customs/trade compliance audit findings (target: zero material findings) and duty spend vs. budget
Freight cost vs. budget and cost per unit/order by channel and region
Operational reconciliation accuracy and unresolved inventory/transactional variance
