Position Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our growing Support team in New York. This is a highly technical, hands‑on role responsible for providing advanced support, systems administration, infrastructure troubleshooting, and technical escalation across Atlas Technica client environments.
The Sr. Systems Engineer serves as an escalation point for Junior Systems Engineers and Systems Engineers while working closely with Client Technology Managers and other technical teams to resolve complex issues, maintain client environments, and support infrastructure, cloud, security, and technology initiatives.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication, ownership, problem‑solving, and a customer‑first approach. This hybrid position requires the ability to provide both remote and onsite support within the New York area based on client and business needs.
Position Responsibilities
Provide advanced remote and onsite IT support across assigned client environments
Serve as an escalation point for Junior Systems Engineers and Systems Engineers on complex technical issues
Provide technical guidance and mentorship through troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and support best practices
Manage and resolve complex support requests through the organization’s ticketing system
Administer and support Microsoft 365 technologies, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Entra ID
Support Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, identity and access management, and endpoint‑management technologies
Troubleshoot networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, cloud, and infrastructure‑related issues
Support Microsoft Azure workloads and contribute to cloud and infrastructure initiatives
Implement and support enterprise networking technologies, including firewalls, switches, and wireless infrastructure
Balance technical escalations, support requests, project‑related work, and research or continuous‑improvement initiatives
Maintain and improve technical documentation, procedures, wiki articles, build standards, and client‑environment information
Follow Atlas Technica’s technical standards, security requirements, documentation expectations, and strict change‑control procedures
Requirements
3+ years of relevant IT experience in systems engineering, systems administration, infrastructure support, desktop support, or a related technical environment
Strong end‑user and desktop support experience across Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and workplace technologies
Significant experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, identity and access management, and related systems‑administration technologies
Experience supporting endpoint protection or threat‑management technologies such as Sophos or similar platforms
Working knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V
Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, VPN, routing, switching, wireless networking, DMZ concepts, and firewalls
Experience implementing or supporting enterprise networking technologies such as Palo Alto, Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, or similar platforms
Experience supporting workloads and services within Microsoft Azure
Experience working within a Managed Service Provider or other high‑touch, multi‑client technology environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical users
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, organization, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to balance multiple technical priorities
Ability to work a hybrid schedule in New York, NY and travel to local client locations as required
Ability to perform the physical requirements necessary to support onsite IT operations, including occasionally lifting or carrying equipment up to 50 lbs., sitting or standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and safely accessing workstations, equipment, and other onsite IT areas as required
Desirable Qualities
Financial services experience supporting hedge funds, private equity firms, investment managers, or similar organizations
Familiarity with financial market applications such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, FactSet, or Capital IQ
Significant MSP experience, particularly with ConnectWise or similar service‑management platforms
Significant experience with Microsoft Azure
Experience with collaboration, identity, or device‑management platforms such as Google Workspace, Box, Dropbox, Duo, Okta, AirWatch, or similar technologies
Experience supporting Citrix XenApp or similar virtual application technologies
Experience with cybersecurity and email‑security solutions such as CrowdStrike, Carbon Black, Cylance, Mimecast, Proofpoint, or similar technologies
Experience with storage and virtualization platforms such as Nimble, Pure Storage, NetApp, Dell EMC, VMware, Hyper‑V, or XenServer
Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Infrastructure as Code, or similar technologies
Strong understanding of infrastructure design with the ability to evaluate, recommend, and help implement new and emerging technologies
