Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Alexandria, VA – Hybrid (3 days in office)
Compensation: $60,000 –$70,000 (depending on experience)
Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k)
Job Description:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their Finance team in Alexandria, VA. This position will support day-to-day general accounting activities, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting within a collaborative and structured environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on General Ledger experience, strong Excel skills, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day General Ledger accounting activities and maintain accurate financial records.
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and supported.
- Complete monthly bank and account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and other general accounting activities.
- Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate account coding.
- Assist with financial reporting, account analysis, and supporting schedules.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized accounting documentation and supporting records.
- Collaborate with members of the Finance and Accounting teams on projects and process improvements.
- Support additional accounting initiatives and assignments as needed while meeting established deadlines.
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of accounting experience.
- Hands-on General Ledger accounting experience required.
- Experience preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations.
- Exposure to month-end close activities.
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems or ERP platforms.
- Accounting degree preferred.
