Job description
Description
Staff Accountant — Sequoia Property Management | Mount Kisco, NY
Sequoia Property Management is a family-owned firm managing condominiums, cooperatives, and homeowners associations, along with select rental and commercial properties, across New York City, Westchester County, and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
We're building out our finance team, and this role sits at the center of it. You'll handle the accounting that keeps our buildings running — and because we're a small office, you'll see the whole business rather than one slice of it. If you want to learn how property management actually works from the financial side, this is a good place to do it.
What you'll do
Process accounts payable — vendor invoices, coding to the correct property and GL account, check runs, and year-end 1099 preparation
Manage accounts receivable — monthly common charge and maintenance billing, shareholder and unit owner ledgers, late fee application, and collections follow-up
Prepare monthly management reports and financial statement packages for each property
Reconcile bank accounts across building operating and reserve accounts
Record journal entries and support the monthly close
Assist with annual budget preparation for each property
Support the year-end audit and prepare schedules for our outside accountants
Field billing questions from shareholders, unit owners, and vendors
Track real estate taxes, insurance, and mortgage escrows
Maintain building records and process unit closings and transfers
Pitch in wherever the finance team needs it — this is a small office and the work varies
What we're looking for
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience
1–4 years of AP/AR, bookkeeping, or full-cycle accounting experience
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large volumes of detail
Experience with QuickBooks; exposure to property management accounting software is a plus — we run Property Boulevard, and experience with Yardi, AppFolio, or MRI transfers well
Accuracy, follow-through, and the judgment to flag something that looks wrong rather than post it
Discretion — you'll be handling owners' and shareholders' financial information
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus given the buildings and vendors we work with
Property management, real estate, or construction accounting experience is welcome but not required — we'll train the right person
What we offer
Salary of $65,000–$85,000, depending on experience
Health Insurance, 401K among more.
Real exposure to the business, working directly with our Assistant Controller and ownership
Room to grow as the finance team builds out
