Job description
Job Title: Staff Data Scientist
Company: Walmart (Sam’s Club)
Location: South Dakota, USA
Salary: $20–30 per hour
Education: Bachelor's Degree (minimum)
Responsibilities
Use machine learning to improve fraud detection models across multiple areas (E‑trade, in‑membership fee fraud, return abuse, account takeover, etc.).
Partner with cross‑functional teams to translate fraud business problems into data‑science solutions.
Develop scalable machine‑learning models and algorithms in large‑scale data mining, graph modeling, and other domains.
Collaborate with engineering teams to build and deploy model pipelines and orchestration at scale.
Quickly respond to system issues and conduct root‑cause analysis.
Skills & Experience
Experience building production‑scale data systems.
Comfortable with programming languages and tools for data manipulation and modeling (e.g., Python, SQL).
Experience with big‑data platforms and distributed computing (PySpark, GCP, BigQuery).
Experience in fraud‑risk solutions preferred.
Proven ability to work with cross‑functional product and engineering teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Records, Economics, Analytics, Statistics, or a related field AND at least four years of analytics‑related experience.
OR Master’s degree in a relevant field AND at least two years of analytics experience.
OR at least six years of experience in analytics or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in statistics, device mastering, optimization models, or a PhD in machine learning, computer science, data science, operations research, statistics, or econometrics.
Proficiency in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, and experience with open‑source frameworks such as scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
