Staff Engineer sought by Functional Software, Inc. dba Sentry in San Francisco, CA
Duties: Execute applied R&D initiatives scoped to identifying, prototyping, and delivering new product capabilities. Conduct targeted technical evaluations of emerging technologies and methodologies in strategically important domains where Sentry can advance meaningful open-source impact. Drive the architectural decision-making process, establish long-term technical direction, enforce engineering standards of open-source project codebases, and exercise end-to-end ownership over the open-source product roadmap. Translate research findings into open-source software that benefits the developer community. Serve as the subject matter authority on the JavaScript ecosystem, enforcing best practices and ensuring production ready deliverables. Build and embed tracing instrumentation to monitor runtime performance and expose error impact. Represent at industry conferences, working groups, and standards bodies to advance next-generation JavaScript language features.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, plus seven (7) years of progressive Software Engineering, Software Development, or related experience: researching and developing software; developing and maintaining JavaScript open-source software; improving software to optimize open-source software UX; building and maintaining UI libraries; integrating latest open-source technologies and software solutions; debugging, solving, and closing issues; and utilizing tools and technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React, SolidJS, Node, and Git. Must have at least three (3) years within the seven (7) years of experience: creating and managing multiple large open-source projects; building frontend platforms and frameworks; and implementing better stack traces. Telecommuting permissible.
Salary: $240,000 – $360,000/year
