Job Overview
The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. This role involves working with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. The position frequently functions guided by nursing protocols and may serve as a team leader as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years) and geriatrics (65 and above), identify inmate-centered goals, and implement prescribed interventions and solutions for identified problems. Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmate-patients within the framework established by the correctional system.
The role requires effective communication skills, demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships. Use current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients and maintain current professional skills. Adhere to personnel policies to enhance operation of the health care unit.
Maintain required annual licensure, credentialing, continuing education, and professional development, and contribute to the professional growth of co-workers. Function in a stressful environment and relate well to patients, security staff, and healthcare team members.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Certifications & Licenses
LPN License to practice in the State of New Jersey
CPR Certification required
Valid Driver's License required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
As a first responder, must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes.
Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag weighing up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
Must be approved by the client and adhere to all client requirements.
