THE POSITION
The Statistician 1 position with the Department of Health offers an exciting chance to support vital public health work. This role helps strengthen statewide EMS data systems that guide important decisions. You will join a team that values accuracy, collaboration, and innovation. The work you do will help advance programs that improve safety and health outcomes across Pennsylvania.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role supports the Health Informatics Office by analyzing statewide EMS data to guide evidence-based decisions and program improvements. As a Statistician 1, you will perform the following duties:
Data Analysis: Carry out statistical evaluations of EMS information to identify trends, patterns, and emerging issues
Data Quality: Maintain and check data submissions for completeness, accuracy, and reliability
System Support: Assist with upgrades, enhancements, and monitoring of the statewide EMS data repository
Programming Tasks: Develop logic and code to clean and prepare datasets using programming tools and statistical software
Reporting Work: Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations that support EMS oversight and improvement
Collaboration Activities: Work with internal staff, councils, and public health partners to support evaluation and improvement projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, three days telework and two in office days per week. You may be required to work onsite as dictated by operational and training needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
A bachelor's degree that includes or is supplemented by 15 college credits in statistics or courses emphasizing the application of statistical methods; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
