Job description
Sterile Processing TechnicianThis position is responsible for cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and stores the supplies, instruments and equipment.Minimum QualificationsDemonstrated understanding of sterilization principles requiredExperience in central processing functions preferredConstant and frequent judgment and response requiredEnglish language skills and communication requiredSPD certification requiredEssential FunctionsAdheres to the sterilization process policies and proceduresCleans each item according to manufacturers' instructionInspects instruments under microscope for damage and defects; lubricates items as requiredDetermines that each item is in good working conditionSorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedureWraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedureAccurately labels each item with name and expiration dateCorrectly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer and other equipment for processing itemsPositions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when neededChecks indicators for proper functioningPerforms required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and proceduresMaintains availability of supplies for continuity or recording throughout sterilization processCleans sterilizers according to established policies and proceduresMaintains inventory levels and accurate recordsPerforms weekly inspections of all sterile items in the facilityChecks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessaryPlaces items in correct locationMaintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing areaMaintains and updates the instrument ray inventory listMaintains current information regarding routine preference cardsAccurately document count of items sent to and returned by laundryPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
