Sterile Processing Technician IBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as a Sterile Processing Technician I in the Central Sterile Processing Department in Hyde Park. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.Responsible for preparing OR surgical case carts and performing decontamination and sterilization of reprocessable supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments in support of patient care.Essential Job FunctionsPerforms daily inventory of sterile supplies to ensure appropriate stock levelsPrepares and assembles instrument and procedural trays for sterilizationMaintains cleanliness and organization of all work areasOperates sterilization equipment including gas and steam sterilizers, cart washers, and sonic washersDecontaminates supplies using appropriate methods (washer, sonic cleaner, cart washer, or manual cleaning)Prepares OR surgical case carts accurately and efficientlyDelivers supplies to patient care areas including clinics, nursery, and diagnostic unitsTracks equipment and instrument trays to maintain accurate inventoryPrepares and assembles instruments for operating rooms, clinics, and birth roomsPrepares linen packs and "special-fold" surgical linens for sterilizationDelivers equipment as requested per department needsAdheres to all department policies and proceduresMaintains confidentiality of all informationParticipates in training and development to support patient care excellencePerforms other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to respond effectively to urgent and emergency supply needsAbility to stand, walk, lift, and push trays over 20 lbs for extended periodsPreferred QualificationsOne year of experience in central supply or sterile processingPrevious hospital-based central supply experiencePosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: RegistryShift: Day - 7:00 AM – 3:30 PMWork Location: OnsiteUnit/Department: Central Sterile ProcessingCode: 743 ClericalAbout UsWe've been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
