Sterile Processing Technician IIBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as a Sterile Processing Technician II in the Central Sterile Processing Department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.The Sterile Processing Technician II will be responsible for preparing OR surgical case carts and performing decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of reprocessable supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments in compliance with hospital standards. This role requires knowledge of all sterilization modalities, monitoring of sterilization processes, and use of instrument tracking systems. Staff are expected to rotate across all processing areas and may be required to work weekends and holidays.Essential Job FunctionsCleans and decontaminates instruments, trays, supplies, and equipment according to established proceduresOperates sterilization and decontamination equipment, including washers, sonic cleaners, and sterilizersAssembles instrument trays and peel packs with proper identification, wrapping, labeling, and sterilization methodMonitors and documents sterilization loads, including biological and chemical testing resultsIdentifies and removes defective or unsafe instruments and reports issues to leadershipStocks sterile storage areas and maintains appropriate inventory levelsPrepares and delivers case carts based on surgical schedules and preference cardsTransports clean and soiled equipment between Sterile Processing and procedural areasMaintains cleanliness and organization of all work areas and equipmentParticipates in quality improvement activities and required departmental trainingAssists in training and onboarding of new staffAdheres to all safety, infection control, and confidentiality standardsRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentSterile Processing Certification (CRCST or CSPDT) required within 18 months of employmentKnowledge of surgical instruments, hospital equipment, and medical terminologyStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to respond effectively to urgent and emergency supply needsAbility to lift and move items over 30 lbs and stand for extended periodsPreferred QualificationsOne year of experience in Central Sterile ProcessingPrevious hospital-based sterile processing experienceBasic computer skills and experience with instrument tracking systemsPosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: RegistryShift: Evenings - 11:00 PM – 7:30 PMWork Location: Onsite – Hyde ParkUnit/Department: Central Sterile ProcessingCBA Code: 743 ClericalAbout UsWe've been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
