Townsen Memorial Surgery Center - Katy Full-time SPD OpportunityTownsen Memorial Surgery Center - Katy is looking for a Full-time Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician to join our team! The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring a sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment while maintaining an understanding of microbiology and infection control standards. The Sterile Processing Technician will collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments, trays and packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment according to established standards and procedures.Essential Functions:Operates sterile processing equipment (washers, steam, gas, ultrasonic and chemical sterilizers)Documents and maintains accurate sterilization recordsInspects, assembles and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioningPerforms simple maintenance on equipment (i.e., clean filters and drains)Prepares trays for designated areas according to policies and proceduresEnsures count sheets are correct and updated as necessaryPrepares and pulls instruments for cases and assist with OR room readinessSelects appropriate method of sterilization for equipment or suppliesStocks, manages and documents inventory appropriately to avoid shortages of supplies and materialsMaintains strict confidentiality of client informationComplies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professionalPerforms other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to read, communicate effectively and understand medical/surgical terminologyKnowledge of reusable surgical instrumentation, micro surgical instrumentation, and power equipmentKnowledge of sterile processing equipment (washers, steam, gas, ultrasonic and chemical sterilizers)Knowledge of cleaning patient care equipment including but not limited to IV pumps, PCAs, CPM machines, Pneumatic pumps, hypo/hyperthermia unitsKnowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipmentKnowledge of SPD equipment, troubleshooting and infectious control practicesKnowledge of proper equipment usage for accurate uses when pulling instrument for casesDemonstrates knowledge and compliance with HIPAA regulations and state requirementsAbility to work effectively within role independently and with other team membersAbility to organize and complete work in a timely mannerAbility to complete additional educational requirements as assigned by due datesEducation and Experience:High School diploma or GEDOne (1) year of current experience within the last three years in a healthcare settingSPD Certification from an accredited programBasic Life Support (BLS) certifiedBenefits:3 Medical Plans2 Dental Plans2 Vision PlansEmployee Assistance ProgramShort and Long Term Disability PlansBasic Life and Voluntary Insurance Plans with AD&D401(k) with a 2-year vestingPTO + Holidays
