Job description
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Store Director to lead operations for a well-established home furnishings retail destination in Emeryville, CA. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a commercially minded operator who enjoys building structure, improving performance, and taking ownership of the customer experience.
You will oversee the day-to-day business while helping modernize systems, strengthen merchandising, and support digital growth. The ideal candidate brings strong retail operations experience, sound business judgment, and a practical, entrepreneurial approach.
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily store operations, including staffing, scheduling, payroll coordination, cash handling, reporting, and customer experience.
Coach and develop sales associates while maintaining a polished, organized, well-merchandised showroom.
Oversee inventory, receiving, purchase orders, vendor relationships, replenishment, and discrepancy resolution.
Improve operating processes across inventory, labeling, POS, reporting, and workflow automation.
Monitor sales performance, budgets, store profitability, and operational costs; recommend improvements as needed.
Support merchandising, buying, and supplier relationships; occasional domestic or international travel may be required.
Help advance e-commerce, digital merchandising, local marketing, advertising, and community engagement initiatives.
Partner with ownership to establish priorities, implement scalable processes, and drive sustainable growth.
Qualifications
10+ years of retail management experience, ideally in home furnishings, interiors, specialty retail, or a destination-store environment.
Demonstrated success leading store operations, teams, inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
Experience with POS systems, inventory software, reporting tools, and process improvement.
Strong commercial instincts with the ability to balance customer experience, operational rigor, and profitability.
Comfort with digital marketing, e-commerce, or retail technology is highly valued.
Hands-on, self-directed leadership style with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including occasional weekends and holidays.
