Job Details General Summary: Under general supervision of the Store Manager, manages the Perishable Departments including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, bakery products, thaw and sell. Assists Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation and customer service. Provides safe working environment and protects company assets. Ensures staff and store compliance with food handling rules.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
Assist Store Manager in ensuring financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices.
Follow company policies and SOPs, Employee Handbook, and communications.
Maintain correct perishable stock levels using current ads, planners, order guides.
Train associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, safe handling, stocking, rotation, grading, repackaging, markdown recording.
Record inventory levels, analyze markdown causes, take corrective actions.
Assist customers to address needs efficiently.
Ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
Assist in operational areas as directed.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Read and interpret documents, diagrams, safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, procedures.
Perform calculations.
Learn cash register functions to generate reports.
Review operating statements and identify trends.
Cash handling procedures knowledge.
Facility and safety control policies knowledge.
Inventory management and merchandising knowledge.
Good organization skills.
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies.
Read plan-o-gram and merchandising guidance.
Willingness to comply with policies.
Willingness to obtain food handling certifications.
Work experience & education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year retail experience and six months supervisory experience.
Previous lead or grocery store experience.
Attainment of local and state food handling certifications.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Frequent walking and standing.
Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching to check out station and stock.
Handling merchandise and equipment.
Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, up to 55 pounds occasionally.
Occasional ladder climbing.
Driving/providing own transportation to deposit and meet.
Fast-paced, moderate noise level.
Occasional exposure to weather, extreme cold in freezers.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
