Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Student Disability Center (SDC) Executive Director, provide a range of academic accommodations for students with disabilities such as access, proctoring, or note-taking. Within this range, independently evaluate student accommodation requests in accordance with UC policy and federal/state law to recommend and coordinate reasonable and appropriate academic accommodations. Consult with SDC Executive Director for guidance on more complex issues. Serve as a junior member of the SDC Specialist team, represent and deliver SDC outreach programs, and other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

Bachelor's degree in related area (e.g., counseling, social work, education) or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.

Experience in providing services to students with disabilities at the post-secondary level.

Experience in evaluating student requests for academic adjustments and determining reasonable accommodations.

Experience in advising students with disabilities about disability strategies and management; in providing crisis response; and in making appropriate referrals.

Expertise in interpreting documentation and determining appropriate accommodations.

Knowledge of appropriate diagnostic and screening instruments required for evaluation of visual, mobility, and medical disabilities.

Knowledge of disability accommodation procedures and strategies for college students with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in related area (e.g., counseling, social work, education) or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.

Experience maintaining confidential records and communications.

Knowledge of public school accommodations that may be part of students' prior educational history.

Skill to handle conflict in a respectful manner. Flexibility to support organizational changes, departmental priorities, activities and assignments.

Knowledge of University/departmental policies and practices, including ethical requirements.

Department Overview

The Student Disability Center (SDC) oversees the provision of academic accommodations, adjustments, and services for approximately 1,600 students with disabilities to ensure equal access to the University's educational programs. Through an interactive process, students receive specialized academic support services, disability management counseling, academic advising specific to disability impact, and the provision of accessible/assistive technology options and training, and other resources as appropriate. Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Occasional adjustment in hours to meet program needs; limited vacation during peak work periods.
