Bobcat Power, LLC is a full-service power delivery contractor operating across the United States. Our experience and expertise cover a wide range of below-grade and above-grade construction for High Voltage Electrical Substations and Transmission Lines. As our Substation Division continues to rapidly expand, Bobcat Power is seeking an experienced Substation Operations Manager to lead and grow our Substation Construction Operations across the United States. This position will report directly to Executive Leadership and be responsible for operational performance, workforce development, project execution, client relationships, safety, and strategic growth.
The ideal candidate is a proven leader with extensive experience managing substation construction operations and a demonstrated ability to recruit, build, mentor, and retain high-performing construction teams.
Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of substation construction operations, including both below-grade and above-grade scopes.
Develop and execute operational strategies that support the company's growth objectives.
Build, recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing field management teams and craft labor.
Establish and maintain a strong pipeline of superintendents, foremen, operators, and skilled craft personnel.
Provide leadership and oversight for multiple projects simultaneously.
Work closely with estimating, project management, and executive leadership to ensure successful project execution.
Monitor project performance related to safety, quality, schedule, and profitability.
Support business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships within the utility and power delivery market.
Assist in staffing plans, workforce forecasting, and resource allocation.
Develop operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
Lead project reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in electrical substation construction.
5+ years of leadership experience managing multiple substation projects and operations teams.
Extensive knowledge of below-grade scopes including:
Earthwork and grading
Drilled piers and foundations
Grounding systems
Duct banks
Underground conduit
Cable trench systems
Extensive knowledge of above-grade scopes including:
Structural steel erection
High-voltage equipment installation
Bus systems
Control buildings
Relay and control systems
Demonstrated success recruiting, building, and leading large field construction teams.
Strong network within the utility and power delivery construction industry.
Proven ability to develop future leaders and create high-performing teams.
Experience managing project schedules, budgets, productivity, and customer expectations.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Strong understanding of utility, EPC, and contractor environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting projects for major utilities, cooperatives, or EPC contractors.
Background in project management, operations management, or construction management.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
OSHA 30 Certification.
Experience with HeavyJob, HCSS, Procore, Primavera P6, Spectrum, or similar construction management software.
Other Requirements
Ability to travel extensively as business needs require.
Ability to lead multiple project teams across several geographic regions.
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
