Job description
Substitute CustodianThe Substitute Custodian, Facilities & Maintenance staff member provides temporary coverage for regular custodial, facilities, and maintenance personnel as needed and when called upon by the school district. The position is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, secure, and well-functioning school environment for students, staff, and visitors. Under general supervision, the Substitute Custodian performs a variety of custodial, facilities, grounds, and basic maintenance duties based on the needs of the assigned school or facility.Requirements / QualificationsTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is entry-level experience performing custodial work in buildings or journey level experience in one or more trades.Important Notice: Effective January 1, 2026, under the Education Code section 44051 (California SB 848), applicants for noncertificated (classified) positions must list all prior employment with school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and state special schools, regardless of duration, including full-time, part-time, and substitute work.
