Job description

Substitute CustodianThe Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, safe, sanitary, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors during the absence of a regular custodian. This position performs routine custodial, cleaning, light maintenance, and event support duties while ensuring District facilities are maintained in accordance with established standards, safety practices, and District procedures.The Substitute Custodian is responsible for:Reporting to the assigned work location at the scheduled start time and receiving daily assignments from the Building Principal, Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, or designee.Cleaning and maintaining assigned areas including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, cafeterias, gyms, libraries, entrances, stairwells, and other District facilities.Performing routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, disinfecting, polishing, and floor care as assigned.Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and replenishing restroom supplies, soap, paper products, and other consumable items.Emptying trash and recycling receptacles and properly disposing of waste.Cleaning windows, doors, walls, furniture, desks, fixtures, drinking fountains, and other surfaces as assigned.Assisting with room setups and breakdowns for meetings, activities, athletic events, performances, and other District functions.Operating custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely and in accordance with District procedures.Safely handling, storing, and using cleaning supplies and chemicals in accordance with applicable safety regulations and District procedures.Identifying and reporting maintenance, safety, security, or equipment concerns to the Building Principal, Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, or designee.Performing minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and other routine duties within the scope of the position.Assisting with basic grounds maintenance, painting, moving furniture or equipment, and other general maintenance duties as assigned.Helping ensure buildings, classrooms, and assigned areas are properly secured at the end of the work shift, including locking doors and reporting security concerns.Maintaining a safe work environment by following all District safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.Maintaining positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and visitors while providing courteous customer service.Maintaining confidentiality regarding students, staff, and District operations.Utilizing computers and technology to support district-related training, processes, and other operational activities.Following all District policies, administrative regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal laws and safety requirements.Performing other duties as assigned by the Custodial Manager, Director of Maintenance, Building Principal, or designee.The Substitute Custodian should have:Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff, administrators, and the public.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while completing assigned tasks efficiently.Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing assignments.Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, hand tools, and cleaning equipment.Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with established procedures.Ability to recognize and report maintenance, safety, and security concerns.Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor throughout the workday.Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.Demonstrated commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming school facilities.Basic requirements include:High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Demonstrated aptitude for custodial, cleaning, or general maintenance work.Ability to read and write sufficiently to perform assigned duties.Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.Ability to operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Prior custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience is preferred but not required.The work environment includes:While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, crouch, reach, lift, push, pull, carry, and use repetitive hand, arm, and other body movements. The employee must frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to seventy-five (75) pounds and may occasionally move heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. The employee regularly works indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, moisture, and temperature extremes. The employee is required to safely operate custodial equipment and may work around moving machinery, ladders, and powered equipment while following established safety procedures. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.The Fox C-6 School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
