Job description
Substitute CustodianThe Substitute Custodian performs essential cleaning and maintenance duties on an as-needed basis to maintain safe, healthy, and welcoming learning environments across Brush School District facilities. This position requires flexibility in scheduling and the ability to quickly adapt to different school building requirements.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms thorough cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and other school areas according to established district standards and schedulesFollows proper safety protocols when using cleaning chemicals and equipmentRemoves trash and recycling from designated areas and ensures proper disposalResponds promptly to cleanup emergencies such as spills or other incidentsAssists with setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for school events when neededReports maintenance issues, vandalism, or safety concerns to appropriate personnelSecures buildings by locking/unlocking doors, checking windows, and setting alarms as assignedPerforms basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and unclogging drainsSnow removal and salt application during winter monthsMaintains cleaning supplies inventory and reports low stock to supervisorComplete any other tasks as required/neededQualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalentPhysical ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasksValid driver's license and reliable transportationAbility to pass background check and drug screeningStrong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standardsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionFlexibility to work varying shifts as neededPreferredPrevious custodial or facilities maintenance experienceExperience working in a school environmentKnowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenanceFamiliarity with OSHA safety standards and proceduresPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periodsCapable of lifting and moving up to 50 poundsAbility to climb ladders and work at heights when necessaryPhysical dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and toolsAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach in performance of dutiesWorking ConditionsWork is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditionsExposure to cleaning chemicals and materials requiring safety precautionsMust be available on short noticeWork environment includes typical school noise levels and activitiesBenefitsCompetitive hourly rate based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insurancePaid time off and holidaysProfessional development opportunitiesLife insuranceBrush School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
